Utilizing the Gonstead method, we focus on your health through specific Chiropractic adjustments to the spine & extremities.
When one experiences neck or back pain, it typically indicates a vertebra has subluxated (or misaligned) which causes the disc to herniate and the joint to swell (similar to swelling that occurs from spraining an ankle). The swelling of the disc between the vertebrae places pressure on the neighboring nerves which may elicit a plethura of symptoms (pain, numbness, tingling, ulcers, constipation, diarrhea, headaches. etc.).
Gonstead represents the ultimate standard in "hands on" spinal adjusting and remains the leader in chiropractic techniques. Adhering to the definition of true chiropractic as defined by D. D. Palmer, the founder of Chiropractic in 1895, Dr. Gonstead found there was no substitute or better method for analyzing or correcting spinal misalignments than with a pair of skilled chiropractic hands. This remains true today.
The swelling along the spine generates heat that our instrument, called the nervoscope, detects. A nervoscope is a heat-sensitive instrument that measures the temperature differential between the segments of the spine. Where this swelling occurs is where the increase in temperature will be emitted. The nervoscope pinpoints these precise locations by taking the guess-work out of the equation.
The first step of every visit is to run the nervoscope along your spine to determine the location of the spinal misalignments. Motion palpation is also performed to determine how the range of motion of the joint has been affected. In order to run the instrument along the spine we need access to the skin area around the spine, so we ask our female patients to remove their shirt and change into a gown, and we ask our male patients to remove their shirt for every visit.
Before beginning chiropractic care, full-spine x-rays in the standing position are taken; one from the front and one from the side. These x-rays help guide us during the spinal adjustment, showing the shape of the spine, as well as the direction of the misalignments. We can also provide specific stretches and postural advice depending on what your spine looks like on the x-ray.
An adjustment will be given on your first visit. We will also discuss a tentative treatment plan depending on the longevity and severity of your symptoms.
